Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: March 31, 2010 River Parish High Schools Participate in Mock Crash During Prom Season Troop B- On Thursday, April 1, 2010, students from St. Charles Catholic High School, East St. John High School, West St. John High School and Riverside High School will participate in a Mock Crash involving impaired driving. The Mock Crash will take place at 9:00 AM at St. Charles Catholic High School, located at 100 Dominican Road, LaPlace, LA 70068. Students involved will act out a fatal crash scene scenario in front of their peers, allowing the students to see first-hand how drinking and driving effects everyone involved. Parents of the students will also be playing parts in this scenario. The Mock Crash will emphasize the dangers and consequences of drinking and driving, the usage of seat belts and the emotional suffering families endure when a fatal crash occurs in reality. Following the Mock Crash, students will participate in a Mock Trial which will illustrate the consequences of decisions to drive impaired. A criminal court judge will take the students through a trial and sentencing. Numerous state and local agencies will be providing their expertise to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Louisiana State Police, Acadian Ambulance Service, LaPlace Volunteer Fire Department and the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office will also participate in the scenario. Personnel from each agency will be available to answer all of the student’s questions at the conclusion of the event. This education by participating agencies is an effort to reduce the number of underage DWI’s, serious injury crashes and fatal crashes.
