Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: February 18, 2010 Louisiana State Police Mardi Gras Statistics For the 32nd year, Louisiana State Police partnered with the New Orleans Police Department to ensure safety in and around the French Quarter during Mardi Gras 2010. 118 Troopers from across the state were sent to supplement the French Quarter patrols. Law enforcement noticed a decline in criminal activity this year. Narcotics arrests decreased by 72% and municipal arrests decreased by 74%. However, gun arrests and seizures increased by 100%, rising from two arrests in 2009 to four arrests in 2010. Troopers made ten (10) felony arrests and assisted NOPD on 194 calls for service. Troopers assisted approximately 18,000 people with directions, roadside assistance and other needed information. On our highways, Louisiana State Police, Troop B has seen an 18% increase in DWI’s since the beginning of 2010 as compared to 2009. Driving While Intoxicated is the leading cause of fatality and/or serious injury crashes. Driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs is dangerous, irresponsible and illegal.
