TROOP A NEWS RELEASE October 1, 2014 Unrestrained Geismar Man Killed in Single Vehicle Crash Jackson – Shortly before 10:00 pm on September 30, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on US Hwy 61 north of LA Hwy 68 in East Feliciana Parish. The crash took the life of 43 year old James Kent, Jr. of Geismar. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Kent, Jr. was driving a 2014 Honda Accord southbound on US Hwy 61. For unknown reasons the vehicle ran off the roadway to the right. Upon doing so the Honda vaulted over a private driveway and struck a tree. Kent, Jr. was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. He suffered fatal injuries as a result. Impairment is not suspected at this time; however, a toxicology sample was taken from Kent, Jr. and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seat belt use, especially on a busy Labor Day holiday. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up.
