TROOP B NEWS RELEASE Motorcyclist Killed in Jefferson Parish Crash Avondale – Shortly after 11:45 pm on April 24, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash involving a motorcycle which occurred on US Hwy 90 at W. Tish Dr. in Jefferson Parish. The crash took the life of 57-year-old Aaron Garrison of Avondale. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Garrison was riding a 2015 Harley Davidson Street Glide motorcycle westbound on US Hwy 90. At the same time, 30-year-old Justin Garcia of Katy, TX was traveling eastbound on US Hwy 90 in a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. For reasons still under investigation, Garcia failed to yield while making a left hand turn. As a result, the Harley Davidson struck the Jetta causing Garrison to be ejected from the motorcycle. Garrison was transported from the scene to West Jefferson Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. Troopers believe Garrison was not wearing a DOT approved helmet. Garcia was properly restrained at the time of the crash and was uninjured. Garcia voluntarily submitted a breath sample which showed no impairment; however, Garcia was placed under arrest and booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center for Negligent Homicide and Failure to Yield. While not all crashes are survivable, Louisiana State Troopers would like to remind motorists that making safe decisions while operating a motor vehicle is of the upmost importance. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, avoiding all distractions, and obeying all traffic laws can often mean the difference between life and death.
