TROOP B NEWS RELEASE April 4, 2019 St. Martin’s High School Students Participate in “Sudden Impact” Mock Crash Jefferson Parish – On Friday, April 5, 2019, students and parents from St. Martin’s Episcopal High School will participate in “Consequences of Impact,” a mock crash involving impaired driving. “Consequences of Impact” will take place at 10:15 am at St. Martin’s Episcopal High School, located at 225 Green Acres, Metairie, LA 70003. Students involved will act out a fatal crash scenario in front of their peers, allowing the students to see firsthand how drinking, driving, distractions and poor decisions in vehicles affect everyone involved. The mock crash will promote open and trusting relationships between parents and teens. Parents of the students will also play roles in this scenario. “Sudden Impact” will emphasize the consequences of poor decisions behind the wheel and the emotional suffering families endure when a fatal crash occurs in reality. Numerous state and local agencies will be providing their expertise to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Jefferson Parish Fire Department, East Jefferson Emergency Medical Services, University Medical Center Level 1 Trauma Center, Louisiana State Police and the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office will also participate in the scenario. Personnel from each agency will be available to answer all of the student’s questions following the mock crash. This education is an effort to reduce the number of underage DWI’s, serious injury and fatal crashes.
