TROOP B NEWS RELEASE Juvenile Victim of Sex Trafficking Found Safe, Suspect Arrested Orleans Parish – On Tuesday, March 26, 2019, Troopers assigned to the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations – Special Victims Unit (SVU) along with the U.S. Marshals Service and New Orleans Police Department arrested 42-year-old Melvin Davis of New Orleans for multiple charges in connection with trafficking a child for sexual purposes. The victim is a 16-year-old missing juvenile and is now safe. LSP Detectives received information regarding the juvenile’s whereabouts, and through investigation learned that the juvenile had escaped from a residence in New Orleans after being held captive for several weeks. During the time she was held against her will, she was beaten and repeatedly raped by Davis. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Davis and a search warrant for the residence. This investigation is active and ongoing. Additional charges and further arrests are forthcoming.
