TROOP B NEWS RELEASE Impaired Driver Arrested in Construction Zone Crash that Injures Trooper Marrero – Shortly after 2:00 am on July 18, 2019, Troop B began investigating an injury crash involving a Trooper on LA 45 at Warwick Dr. in Jefferson Parish. The crash resulted in minor injuries to the Trooper, and the arrest of 21-year-old Ashley D. Munoz-Delarosa of Marrero. The initial investigation revealed that a Trooper was stopped in the right lane of a construction zone on LA 45 in a fully-marked Louisiana State Police Crown Victoria with emergency lights activated. At the same time, Munoz-Delarosa was traveling southbound on LA 45 in a 2019 Toyota Camry. Munoz-Delarosa disregarded construction zone cones and flares across the roadway and struck the passenger side of the LSP Crown Victoria. Both the Trooper and Munoz-Delarosa were transported a local hospital with minor injuries. Munoz-Delarosa was unrestrained, and impairment on her part is suspected. Troopers placed her under arrest for LRS 14:98 – DWI (first offense), LRS 32:58 - Careless operation, LRS 32:237 Disregarding barricades signs and signals, and LRS 32:295.1 No seatbelt. She was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. This crash remains under investigation, and there is no further information at this time. Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of driving with caution in roadway construction zones. Drivers should slow down when approaching work zones and follow posted speed limits and warning signs. Drivers should also be sober, resist distractions and remain aware of their surroundings as there are often workers inside highway construction zones.
