Speed and Lack of Seatbelt Cause Fatality in Plaquemines Parish

Belle Chasse – Shortly before 5:00 p.m. this evening, Troopers with Troop B began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on LA 23 near Avenue G. The crash took the life of 46-year-old Michael Kramer of Belle Chasse.

The preliminary investigation revealed Kramer was traveling northbound on LA 23 near the intersection of Avenue G in a 2007 Chevrolet Pick-up at a high rate of speed. For reasons still under investigation, Kramer failed to negotiate the curve in the roadway and lost control of his vehicle. Kramer’s vehicle traveled off the roadway to the right and struck a raised curb causing the vehicle to overturn several times. Kramer was not properly restrained and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Impairment is unknown at this time and toxicology reports are pending. Speed and lack of seatbelt use is a suspected factor in this crash. This crash remains under investigation and there is no further information available at this time.

According to NHSTA, for more than two decades, speeding has been involved in approximately one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities. Speeding is defined as speed too fast for conditions or in excess of the posted speed limit. Speed limits are implemented in the best interest of public safety. Numerous factors are taken into consideration when deciding on a speed limit. Some of those include lane and shoulder width, vertical alignment, super elevation and curve radius. Every day, Troopers witness firsthand the devastating effects of motor vehicle crashes caused by speeding. Please be a responsible driver, obey speed limits, drive sober, buckle up and avoid all distractions.
