Pedestrian Killed in Jefferson Parish Crash |
TROOP B NEWS RELEASE September 21, 2019 Pedestrian Killed in Jefferson Parish Crash Metarie – Shortly before 9:30 p.m. last night, Troopers with Troop B responded to a fatality crash involving a pedestrian on Airline Highway near Division Street. The crash took the life of 76-year-old William Simon of Metarie. The preliminary investigation revealed Simon was walking in a northbound direction across Airline Hwy. As he entered the center of the southbound travel lanes, he was struck by a 2017 Hyundai Sonata being driven by 41-year-old Trishell Williams of New Orleans. Simon suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. Williams was properly restrained and suffered minor injuries. Impairment on the part of Simon is unknown and a standard toxicology report is pending through the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office. Williams provided a breath sample which showed no alcohol present. This crash remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time. Troopers urge pedestrians to maintain a heightened level of awareness while walking near the road. Simple precautions such as wearing reflective materials, avoiding distractions, and walking a safe distance from travel lanes while facing oncoming traffic could help prevent many pedestrian related crashes. Troopers would also like to take this opportunity to remind motorists that making good choices, such as never driving while impaired and ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, can often be the key to preventing and surviving serious crashes.
