Unidentified Pedestrian Killed in St. Charles Parish Crash

St. Charles Parish This morning, shortly after 4:00 am, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash on US 90 at Third Street. The crash involved a pedestrian who has yet to be identified.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Ford Ranger was traveling west on US 90. At the same time, an unidentified pedestrian was walking in the roadway when he was struck by the Ford pick-up. The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Ford was properly restrained and not injured. Impairment is not suspected and toxicology reports are pending for both the driver and pedestrian. Identification of the pedestrian at this time is still pending. This crash is still under investigation and no further information is available at this time.

Pedestrians and motorists alike are urged to remain vigilant while on area roadways and pay close attention to their surroundings. Crashes involving pedestrians can often be avoided by following some basic safety guidelines. Pedestrians should wear light-colored or reflective clothing and should always avoid walking on the roadway in dark areas. Pedestrians must also assume that approaching motorists cannot see them, especially at night. Crossing roadways only in well-lit, designated areas and always walking facing traffic will enhance the safety for pedestrians.
