TROOP B NEWS RELEASE March 1, 2019 Impaired Driver Kills 33-Year-Old in St. Bernard Parish Crash St. Bernard Parish – This afternoon, at approximately 2:45 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash on LA 39 south at Maureen Lane. The crash claimed the life of 33-year-old Autumn Danna of Violet. Preliminary investigation revealed that Danna was riding a full sized tricycle south on LA 39 on the right shoulder. At the same time, 49-year-old Michael Wagner of Youngsville was driving a 2019 Jeep Cherokee south on LA 39 in the right lane. The Jeep drifted onto the shoulder, impacting the tricycle and ejecting Danna. Danna was transported from the scene to University Medical Center, where she later died. Through further investigation, Troopers determined that Wagner was severely impaired on narcotics. A search warrant was granted for a blood test and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab will perform a toxicology test. Due to Wagner’s level of impairment, he was taken to University Medical Center. Wagner has been arrested and upon his release from the hospital, he will be booked into the St. Bernard Parish jail for Vehicular Homicide, DWI and Reckless Operation. Whether impaired through alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two, the consequences of driving while impaired remain the same. The task of stopping impaired drivers is a joint effort of law enforcement agencies and the public. By never allowing an impaired driver to get behind the wheel and reporting dangerous drivers to law enforcement, the public can play an important role in the reduction of crashes caused by impaired drivers. Making poor decisions in a vehicle such as driving impaired, driving while distracted, or not wearing a seat belt leads to serious injuries and deaths every day across the state. Making the responsible decision can mean the difference between life and death. Contact Information: | |||
