Impairment Suspected in Early Morning Crash that Killed Baton Rouge Woman

Baton Rouge, LA – Shortly before 6:00 am on December 26, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash on LA 30 (Nicholson Dr.) west of LA 327 Spur (Gardere Ln.) in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 37 year old Tomeka Lacey of Baton Rouge, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 32 year old Andrew Davis was traveling eastbound on LA 30 in a 2004 Nissan Armada. At the same time, Lacey was traveling westbound on LA 30 in a 2007 Chevrolet Impala. Davis’ vehicle veered across the center line into the westbound lane and struck Lacey’s vehicle head-on.

Lacey was properly restrained but suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office. Davis and his passenger were also restrained and suffered moderate to severe injuries. Impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash on the part of Davis. A toxicology sample was taken from both Davis and Lacey for analysis.

Davis has been charged with Vehicular Homicide, Vehicular Negligent Injuring, Careless Operation, No Driver’s License, and Expired Motor Vehicle Inspection. He has been released from the hospital and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that impaired driving continues to be a major problem throughout Louisiana. Whether impaired through alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two, the consequences of driving while impaired remain the same. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
