| TROOP B NEWS RELEASE August 15, 2018 Evidence from Crash Leads to Arrest of Baton Rouge Man for Vehicular Homicide Update: During the course of the crash investigation, statements given by Johnson did not match evidence at the scene. Through further investigation, DNA evidence was collected and analyzed by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab and clearly indicated that Ivan Johnson was the driver of the vehicle at the time of the fatal crash. A search warrant was issued for medical record toxicology results. Troopers found that Johnson was over the legal Blood Alcohol Concentration level (0.08g%) allowed by state law. An arrest warrant was issued on August 14, 2018 for Ivan Johnson for Vehicular Homicide, Vehicular Negligent Injuring, Obstruction of Justice, DWI 1st Offense, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Speeding. Johnson was arrested on August 15, 2018 and booked into the Livingston Parish Jail on the above charges. Speed and Lack of Seat Belt Usage are Factors in I-10 Fatal Crash June 10, 2018 St. John the Baptist Parish – Yesterday evening (June 9th, 2018), shortly before 9:00 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a one vehicle fatal crash on I-10 east at mile post 207. Anthony Lewis (age 59) of Baton Rouge, LA died on the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche was traveling east on I-10 at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle and it ran off the roadway and flipped several times. Lewis was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected as a result of the crash. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Troopers identified two other individuals involved in the crash. Ivan Johnson (age 50) and Carlos Moore (age 52), both of Baton Rouge, were transported to University Medical Center with moderate injuries. The crash and exact seating positions of the three occupants are under investigation. The majority of motorists who die in crashes are not wearing a seat belt. Despite this fact, some people still choose not to take the 3 seconds needed to buckle a seat belt. Louisiana law requires motorists to wear a seat belt in every seating position, front seat and back seat, day and night. Wearing a seat belt is the single most effective thing vehicle occupants can do to minimize the risk of injury in the event of a crash. Motorists are encouraged to make the smart choice and to always Buckle Up! Contact Information: | |||
