August 9, 2018 Jefferson Parish – Last night, at approximately 10:30 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a hit and run crash that left a New Orleans man in critical condition. The crash occurred on the I-10 east collector road at Causeway Boulevard.

Preliminary investigation revealed that 25 year-old Gordon Poydras was walking in or near the right lane of the collector road and was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene of the crash. Mr. Poydras, was transported to University Medical Center and remains in critical condition. Troopers collected evidence from the scene of the crash and determined that the vehicle is a 2012-2015 white Toyota Camry. The vehicle will have significant damage to the right front bumper, headlight, fog light and right wheel well.

Troopers are asking anyone with information relating to the crash or the whereabouts of the hit and run vehicle to call Louisiana State Police Troop B at 504.471.2775.

Troopers urge pedestrians to maintain a heightened level of awareness while walking near the road. Simple precautions such as wearing reflective materials, avoiding distractions, and walking a safe distance from travel lanes while facing oncoming traffic could help prevent many pedestrian related crashes. Motorists should also remain vigilant for pedestrians. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
