TROOP B NEWS RELEASE November 17, 2018 Speeding is a Factor in Jefferson Parish Fatal Crash Jefferson Parish – Yesterday evening, shortly before midnight, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash involving a motorcycle on LA 48 at Rebel Street. The crash claimed the life of 72 year-old Robert Drake of River Ridge, LA. The preliminary crash investigation indicated that Drake was riding a 2008 Honda Goldwing west on La 48 at a high rate of speed. As the Honda entered a left-hand curve, Drake lost control of the motorcycle and ran off the road to the right. The motorcycle then entered a ditch and struck a culvert. According to NHTSA, in 2016 speeding accounted for over 10,100 deaths nationwide, which is more than a quarter of all fatalities. Motorists need to pay attention to speed limit signs and reduce speed when necessary, including during inclement weather. In order to reduce your chances of being injured in a motor vehicle crash, pay attention to the road and do not drive distracted, always drive sober and ensure that everyone is properly buckled.
