TROOP B NEWS RELEASE November 23, 2018 Failure to Yield Causes Fatal Thanksgiving Day Crash St. Charles Parish – Yesterday afternoon, shortly before 3:00 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash involving two vehicles that occurred on US 61 south at East Harding Street. The crash claimed the life of 31 year-old Cedrick Victor of Montz, LA. Preliminary investigation revealed that Victor was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry north on East Harding Street, approaching US 61. For unknown reasons, Victor failed to yield at the stop sign and traveled into the path of a 2007 Pontiac G6, driven by 20 year-old Lawrence Ferrell III of River Ridge, LA. Victor was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased; Ferrell was taken to University Medical Center with moderate injuries. Victor was restrained at the time of the crash and impairment is unknown. A toxicology test will be performed following an autopsy. Ferrell was not restrained and voluntarily submitted to a blood test which will be analyzed by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Troopers remind motorists to always look and make sure it is clear before pulling into traffic or across intersections. Always watch vehicles as they approach and gauge the distance they are covering as they approach. Never try and “make it” across when it is unsafe to do so. Keep distractions to a minimum and keep your focus on the road. It only takes a fraction of a second for a crash to occur. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police. Contact Information: | |||
