TROOP B NEWS RELEASE February 10, 2019 Marrero Man Killed in Jefferson Parish Crash Jefferson Parish – This morning, shortly before 8:00 am, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on LA 3139 and LA 3152. The crash claimed the life of 35-year-old Simon Coker of Marrero, LA. Preliminary investigation revealed that Coker was driving a Nissan Titan on LA 3139 north, exiting onto LA 3152 south. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan ran off the road to the right, onto the median and struck a concrete bridge support. The impact caused the Nissan to catch on fire, trapping Coker inside. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Seat belt use and impairment are unknown. A toxicology test will be performed during an autopsy. Many of the crashes on our roadways are preventable, and lives can be saved if we take how we travel more seriously. Whether it is by vehicle, bicycle or walking, tragedies like these do not have to occur if we plan our trips responsibly. By not driving impaired, avoiding distractions, wearing seat belts, wearing reflective materials, and walking a safe distance from travel lanes while facing oncoming traffic, we can make our journeys safer for ourselves and those we share the road with.
