TROOP A NEWS RELEASE May 21, 2017 Unrestrained Norwood Man Dies in Single Vehicle Crash in East Feliciana Parish Norwood – Shortly before 1:00 am on May 21, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle crash on LA 422 west of LA 67 in East Feliciana Parish. The crash took the life of 40 year old William Loyd Jr. of Norwood. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Loyd was traveling eastbound on LA 422 in a 1999 Chevrolet Camaro. For reasons still under investigation, Loyd’s vehicle veered off the right side of the roadway and he failed to regain control after overcorrecting to the left. Loyd’s vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree. Loyd was not restrained at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Feliciana Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from Loyd for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
