| TROOP N NEWS RELEASE December 4, 2018 Trooper Involved Shooting in Orleans Parish Update: As the investigation into the Trooper involved shooting continues, the suspect has been identified as 44 year-old Ronald Martin of Fort Knox, Kentucky. Detectives assigned to the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations have determined that Martin is a federal law enforcement officer. Martin was off-duty at the time of the shooting and was in possession of a handgun, which was recovered on the scene. The investigation indicates that the Trooper observed Martin with the weapon in his hands and repeatedly identified himself to Martin as a law enforcement officer. Martin failed to comply and pointed the weapon at the fully uniformed Trooper. The Trooper discharged his department issued firearm striking Martin. Detectives suspect that Martin was impaired and found no evidence of other individuals near the area at the time of the incident. An arrest warrant has been issued for Aggravated Assault. Martin remains hospitalized and upon release, he will be booked into the Orleans Justice Center. The investigation remains active and on-going. No further information is available at this time. December 2, 2018 - Orleans Parish – This morning, shortly before 3:00 am, a Louisiana State Trooper was on-duty in the area of 880 Port of New Orleans Place. The Trooper observed a subject with a weapon, and during the encounter the Trooper discharged his service weapon striking the subject. The subject was transported to University Medical Center for treatment. The Trooper was not injured. The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations was contacted to investigate and gather all facts surrounding the incident. The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab is assisting in the investigation.
