| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE August 8, 2016 Unrestrained Prairieville Man Dies in Ascension Parish Crash Prairieville, LA – Shortly before 12:00 am on August 7, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on LA 44 south of LA 933 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 47 year old Bart Todd of Prairieville, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Todd was traveling southbound on LA 44 in a 1998 Toyota Camry. For unknown reasons, Todd’s vehicle crossed the center line into the northbound lane and ran off the roadway. Todd’s vehicle continued off the roadway and came to a stop after striking a culvert. Todd was unrestrained and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office. It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from Todd for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
