Four Vehicle Crash Takes Life of St. Francisville Man

St. Francisville, LA At approximately 2:30 pm on March 24, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a four vehicle fatal crash on US Hwy 61 south of LA Hwy 66 in West Feliciana Parish. The crash took the life of 69 year old Michael A. Bilowich of St. Francisville, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 18 year old Jalen Cavalier of St. Francisville was traveling southbound on US 61 in a 2009 Ford Fusion. For reasons still under investigation, Cavalier’s Fusion crossed the center line into the northbound lanes of travel. Upon the Fusion entering the northbound lanes, 40 year old Kory White of Jackson, LA swerved his northbound 1999 GMC Suburban in an attempt to avoid striking the Fusion. As a result, the Suburban missed the Fusion but traveled off the road to the right and began to roll. After entering the northbound lanes of travel, Cavalier’s Fusion struck a northbound 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander driven by Bilowich. The Fusion then struck another northbound vehicle, a 2005 Chevrolet Impala driven by 25 year old Lakesha Walker of Woodville, MS.

Despite the fact that he was properly restrained, Bilowich suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported from the scene to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital where he later succumbed to those injuries. Both Walker and White were properly restrained, and were transported from the scene to local hospitals with minor to moderate injuries.

Cavalier was properly restrained at the time of the crash. He was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with moderate injuries. Impairment is unknown at this time, and toxicology samples were taken from all drivers, the results of which are pending. This crash remains under investigation, and charges may be pending.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
