TROOP A NEWS RELEASE April 13, 2017 Baton Rouge Man Dies in Single Vehicle Crash in East Baton Rouge Parish Baton Rouge – Shortly after 7:00 am on April 13, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle crash on LA 327 (River Rd). north of Ben Hur Rd. in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 35 year old William Lacroix of Baton Rouge, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Lacroix was traveling southbound on LA 327 in a 1999 Toyota Avalon. For unknown reasons, Lacroix failed to negotiate a left hand curve and ran off the right side of the roadway. Lacroix’s vehicle began to travel up the levee and overturned onto its roof. Lacroix was properly restrained at the time of the crash but sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office. It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from Lacroix for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
