Motorcyclist Killed and Passenger Injured in St. Bernard Parish Crash

St. Bernard Parish - Shortly after 4:00 a.m. this morning, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash on LA 300 east near Cottonwood Drive in St. Bernard Parish. The crash involved a motorcycle and claimed the life of 43-year-old Zeb Devine of New Orleans, LA.

The initial investigation conducted by Troopers revealed that Devine was operating a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle on LA 300 east near Cottonwood Drive, near a permanent roadway closure, which was marked with traffic signs and a concrete barrier. For reasons still under investigation, the Suzuki struck the concrete barrier. After striking the concrete barrier, Devine and his passenger were ejected from the motorcycle. Despite wearing an approved DOT helmet, Devine sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The additional passenger of the motorcycle was transported to a local hospital and treated for moderate injuries. It is unknown if speed and/or impairment were factors in the crash, however as part of an ongoing investigation, standard toxicology test will be performed. The crash remains under investigation and there is no further information available at this time.

Troopers encourage all riders to take an approved motorcycle safety course. These courses teach safe riding practices and help you apply safe riding strategies that can help reduce your chance of injury should a crash occur. Anyone interested in attending motorcycle safety courses can go to http://lsp.org/motorcycle.html for more information. Making good choices while riding a motorcycle, such as never driving while impaired and obeying all traffic laws, can often mean the difference between life and death.
