TROOP A NEWS RELEASE April 20, 2017 Fiery Crash Involving Five Vehicles on I-10 Leaves One Person Dead in West Baton Rouge Parish Port Allen – At approximately 5:30 pm on April 19, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a five vehicle crash on Interstate 10 eastbound west of LA 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 26 year old Ronald Allen of Alexandria, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as eastbound traffic on I-10 began to slow due to congestion. A 2016 Freightliner 18-wheeler driven by 48 year old Harvey Harris of Sheridan, AR failed to reduce his speed as he approached the slower moving traffic. Harvey’s vehicle struck the rear of a 2006 GMC Sierra driven by 70 year old Gerald Theriot of Chino Hills, CA. Theriot’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway after impact as Harvey’s vehicle continued forward. Harvey’s vehicle then struck the rear of Allen’s 2004 Chevrolet Impala and pushed it into the rear of a 2014 Kenworth 18-wheeler driven by 71 year old David Short Jr. of Rural Retreat, VA. Allen’s Impala was crushed between the two 18-wheelers causing a fire that fully engulfed the three vehicles. The momentum from the impact caused Short’s vehicle to continue eastbound and strike a 2004 Ford F-250 driven by 18 year old Maykoll Cabrera of Tampa, FL. Allen sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the West Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office. The other parties involved sustained minor to moderate injuries. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash and a toxicology sample will be taken from all drivers for analysis. This crash remains under investigation and charges are pending. Contact Information: | |||
