Juvenile Arrested after Troopers Find Gun Painted to Resemble a Toy

New Orleans – On February 15, 2015, Louisiana State Police Troopers arrested a 16 year-old juvenile for illegal possession of a handgun on N. Claiborne at Bienville St. The handgun, which the juvenile was carrying, was painted to resemble a toy gun.

Shortly after 10:45 pm, two Troopers patrolling the New Orleans area during Carnival 2015 approached the juvenile, who was loitering around an abandoned building. Upon coming into contact with the 16 year-old, Troopers conducted a pat down for weapons. They discovered a RPG .22 caliber revolver that was painted to resemble a toy gun. The juvenile was booked into the New Orleans Juvenile Facility for Illegal Carrying of a Weapon.

"Law enforcement partnerships continue to be the foundation of the 2015 Mardi Gras season," said Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent. "We will continue to be proactive and work as a unified team. This illegal weapon is indicative of the threat which law enforcement faces everyday as we strive to provide a safe Carnival atmosphere."
