TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE

January 31, 2015
Impairment and Lack of Seat Belt are Factors in St. Bernard Parish Crash

St Bernard Parish – This morning, shortly before 5:00 am, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash on LA 39 near Angelique Street. The crash claimed the life of 29 year-old Mathew Diecidue of Violet, LA.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Diecidue was driving a 2008 Ford F-150 east on LA 39. For unknown reasons, the F-150 struck the curb on the median and Diecidue lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then traveled to the right rotating across the east travel lanes of LA 39, struck a fence and a ditch. Diecidue was the only occupant and was partially ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Diecidue was not wearing a seat belt and impairment is suspected. Toxicology results are pending an autopsy.

42% of Louisiana’s fatal crashes in 2013 were caused by alcohol impairment. Troopers witness first-hand the devastating effects that impaired driving crashes have on families across our state. Driving impaired is illegal. Louisiana State Police would like to remind citizens that having a plan in place for a safe ride home decreases fatal and injury crashes. Always remember to drive sober, never get into a vehicle with an impaired driver and always buckle up, regardless of your seating position! These few simple steps will greatly reduce your chances of being injured or killed in motor vehicle crashes.

Buckle Up Louisiana, It’s the Law!!
