TROOP A NEWS RELEASE May 6, 2017 Drag Racing Leads to Fatal Crash in East Baton Rouge Parish Baton Rouge– At approximately 10:30 pm on May 5, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a fatal crash on US 61 at Barringer Foreman Rd. in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 20 year old Michael Bayles of Baton Rouge. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Bayles was drag racing with an unknown vehicle in the southbound lanes of US 61. As they approached the intersection of US 61 and Barringer Foreman, 18 year old William Foreman of Baton Rouge was preparing to make a U-turn. Bayles’ 2010 Chevrolet Camaro collided head-on with Foreman’s 2013 Acura TSX in the intersection. Bayles was unrestrained at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries. Bayles was pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office. Foreman and his passenger were both restrained and sustained serious injuries. It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash. A toxicology sample will be taken from both drivers for analysis.
