Motorcycles Crash on I-10 Leaving One Dead and One Seriously Injured

Laplace, LA- Troopers investigated a two vehicle fatality crash on I-10 involving two motorcycles yesterday evening. The crash occurred shortly before 7:30 pm and claimed the life of a 66 year old Slidell man. The other motorcycle operator was seriously injured and transported to a Baton Rouge area hospital.

The investigation revealed that two motorcycles were traveling west on I-10 near Laplace when the crash occurred. A 2015 Harley Davidson 3-wheel motorcycle, operated by Richard Kline (age 62) of Pearl River, was traveling staggered and next to a 2012 Cam Am 3-wheel motorcycle, operated by Louis Sevin Jr. (age 66) of Slidell. As the motorcycles were traveling in the left lane, the Harley Davidson drifted to the right and its rear tire made contact with the front left tire of the Cam Am. The contact caused the Harley Davidson to travel off the left side of the road at the same time the Cam Am traveled off the right side of I-10. Both operators were ejected from the motorcycles. Kline, who was wearing a US D.O.T. helmet, was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge with serious injuries. Sevin, who was wearing a US D.O.T. helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. John Parish Coroner’s Office.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Routine toxicology tests are pending for Sevin. Blood was taken from Kline, and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists to always be aware of your surroundings when traveling on the road. Motorcyclists must wear a proper US D.O.T. helmet when operating their motorcycle on Louisiana roadways. Although not all crashes are survivable, properly utilizing safety equipment like approved motorcycle helmets and seatbelts decrease your risk of serious injury or death.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
