State Police Investigate another Motorcycle Crash Involving Lack of Helmet Use

Jefferson Parish – Last night, shortly after 10:00 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash on LA 3139 at LA 3154. The crash claimed the life of 39 year old Shawn Clouston of Canonsburg, PA. This is the second motorcycle crash within 24 hours that Troop B has investigated and both crashes involved riders not wearing helmets.

The initial investigation revealed that Clouston was operating a 2014 Victory Cross Country motorcycle north on LA 3139 at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle crossed the north lanes of LA 3154, struck a curb then crossed the median and south lanes of LA 3154. The motorcycle then rolled up a small levee and went airborne. Clouston was ejected and both Clouston and the motorcycle came to rest in the drainage canal. Clouston was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead on the scene. Impairment is unknown and a toxicology test is pending an autopsy.

Motorcycle helmets are required by Louisiana law for all riders. The helmet will provide protection for the brain and decrease the chances of traumatic brain injury. The Louisiana State Police website, LSP.ORG, provides information on motorcycle safety classes. The classes range from basic rider course to the advanced rider course.
