TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE May 8, 2015 St. Rose Woman Booked with Vehicular Homicide After Killing Bicyclist St. John the Baptist Parish – Shortly before 11:00 pm last night, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash in St. John the Baptist Parish on LA 636-3 at Water Plant Road. The crash claimed the life of 55 year-old Wellman Joseph of Laplace. Preliminary investigation revealed that 29 year-old Darla Gauthreaux of St. Rose was driving a 2012 Nissan west on LA 636-3 near Water Plant Road. Joseph was operating a bicycle west on LA 636-3 and was struck by the Nissan. Joseph was ejected from the bicycle and died on the scene. Gauthreaux fled the scene following the crash and a family member at Gauthreaux’s residence notified the St. John Sheriff’s Office about the crash. After State Police interviewed Gauthreaux, she was arrested for Vehicular Homicide, DWI and Felony Hit and Run. She was booked into the St. John Parish jail. The crash remains under investigation. Whether impaired through alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two, the consequences of driving while impaired remain the same.
