TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE

November 11, 2014
Impairment and Lack of Seat Belts are Factors in Plaquemines Parish Fatal Crash

Plaquemines Parish – Early this morning, shortly before 3:00 am, Louisiana State Police Troop B was notified of a single vehicle fatal crash on LA 23 near mile post 41 in Plaquemines Parish. The passenger in the vehicle, 41 year old Marcia Barthelemy (B/F) of Port Sulphur, LA, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Tenille J. Edgerson (B/F, age 33) of Buras, LA, was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe north on LA 23. The Tahoe ran off the roadway to the right, Edgerson overcorrected, and the vehicle overturned. Edgerson was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. Edgerson and Barthelemy were not wearing seat belts and impairment is suspected. Blood was drawn from Edgerson and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab will perform toxicology tests. Criminal charges are pending.

42% of Louisiana’s fatal crashes in 2013 were caused by alcohol impairment. Troopers witness first-hand the devastating effects that impaired driving crashes have on families across our state. Driving impaired is illegal. Louisiana State Police would like to remind citizens that having a plan in place for a safe ride home decreases fatal and injury crashes. Always remember to drive sober, never get into a vehicle with an impaired driver and always buckle up, regardless of your seating position! These few simple steps will greatly reduce your chances of being injured or killed in motor vehicle crashes.
