TROOP A NEWS RELEASE May 17, 2017 Unrestrained Tickfaw Woman Dies in Single Vehicle Crash in Livingston Parish Livingston Parish – Shortly before 11:00 am on May 17, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle crash on LA 1064 east of LA 43 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 67 year old Catherine Rivero of Tickfaw. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Rivero was traveling eastbound on LA 1064 in a 2007 Nissan Maxima. For reasons still under investigation, Rivero sideswiped the bridge rail with the passenger’s side of her vehicle and ran off the left side of the roadway. Rivero was not restrained at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from Rivero for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
