TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE January 20, 2014 Overnight Crash on I-10 Claims Two Lives Last night, shortly after 11:00 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop B was notified of a fatal crash on I-10 east near Cleary Avenue. The crash claimed the lives of 31 year-old Susan Perez of Metairie, LA and 35 year-old Karla Ordonez of New Orleans, LA. Preliminary investigation revealed that Perez was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry east on I-10 and for unknown reasons veered to the left and struck the concrete barrier wall. The Toyota then crossed all eastbound lanes of I-10 and struck the right guardrail. Ordonez was the front seat passenger and both women were pronounced dead on the scene. Speed is believed to be a factor of the crash. Both women were wearing seat belts and impairment is unknown however, toxicology tests are pending the autopsies. The crash remains under investigation. According to the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, speeding directly contributed to nearly 40 fatalities in 2013. Motorists should pay attention to speed limits and only travel at the posted speed limit when safe to do so, keeping in mind weather and road conditions.
