TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE January 24, 2014 Unrestrained Young Man Killed in Crash in Jefferson Parish This morning, shortly before 6:30 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash on US 90 at West Tish Street. An Avondale resident, Tyler Bourgeois (W/M, age 21), was pronounced dead on the scene after driving into the path of a Mack dump truck. Preliminary investigation revealed that Bourgeois was driving a 2006 Chevrolet truck south on West Tish Street and for unknown reasons, Bourgeois disregarded a stop sign and attempted to cross the west travel lanes of US90. The Mack dump truck was traveling in the right lane and was driven by Ronald Lott (W/M, age 61) of Marrero, LA. The dump truck struck the Chevrolet and upon impact, Bourgeois was ejected from the vehicle. Speed and impairment are not suspected as factors, however toxicology results are pending an autopsy and Lott voluntarily submitted to a chemical test and no detectable alcohol was found in his system. Bourgeois was not restrained during the crash and weather was not a contributing factor. Troopers and first responders witness every day the remarkable difference proper restraint use plays in lessening the severity of crash injuries and decreasing fatalities across our state. Wearing a seat belt every trip every time is the single most effective thing an occupant can do to protect themselves in the event of a motor vehicle crash. Louisiana law requires every occupant, regardless of seating position to be properly restrained at all times. Buckle Up Louisiana!
