TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE December 12, 2013 Harvey Man Killed in Crash in Plaquemines Parish This afternoon, at approximately 2:50 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop B was notified of a vehicle in a wooded area on LA 39 at mile post 19 in Plaquemines Parish. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Rickey Hooper (W/M, age 55) of Harvey, LA, traveled off the road and overturned. The vehicle was found approximately 55 feet from the road and Hooper was discovered deceased inside of the vehicle. It is unknown when the crash occurred; however, he was last seen on December 3, 2013. The crash remains under investigation. However, speed is a factor of the crash. Impairment is unknown and a toxicology test is pending an autopsy. There were no other occupants of the vehicle and Hooper was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Motorists need to remain vigilant at all times while they are behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. Troopers remind motorists to avoid distractions while driving. Distractions, such as cell phones, passengers, radios, etc., take a driver’s focus away from the road. When focus is taken away from the road, the serious injury and fatality crash rate rises. Please make good decisions behind the wheel; buckle up each and every ride, drive sober and place your full attention on the road and other motorists.
