TROOP B – Press Release October 24, 2013 Motorcycle Driver Killed in Crash in St. Charles Parish Last night, at approximately 8:45 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash in St. Charles Parish on LA 52 at David Court. Michael Cullins (W/M, age 39) of Paradis, LA, was driving a 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle and was pronounced dead on the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed that Elke Forbes (B/F, age 35) of Thibodaux, LA, was driving a 2006 Dodge Caravan. Forbes was attempting to turn left onto LA 52 south from a private drive. Cullins was traveling north on LA 52 when the Dodge Caravan pulled into his path and the motorcycle impacted the Caravan. Cullins was transported to St. Charles Hospital where he later died due to injuries sustained in the crash. Forbes and a passenger, Sierrarene Gerard (B/F, age 19), were transported to Ochsner Kenner Medical Center with minor injuries. A blood sample was taken from Forbes in order to determine if impairment was a factor of the crash. The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab will conduct a toxicology analysis. Toxicology results are pending an autopsy on Cullins. Forbes was arrested and charged with Negligent Homicide and Failure to Yield from a Private Drive. The crash remains under investigation. Motorists need to remain vigilant at all times while they are behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. When entering a highway, you must look both ways multiple times in order to ensure that it is safe for you to enter the roadway. Troopers remind motorists to avoid distractions while driving. Distractions, such as cell phones, passengers, radios, etc., take a driver’s focus away from the road. When focus is taken away from the road, the serious injury and fatality crash rate rises. Please make good decisions behind the wheel; buckle up each and every ride, drive sober and place your full attention on the road and other motorists.
