TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE November 2, 2014 Speed and Lack of Seat Belt Usage are Factors in St. Charles Parish Fatal Crash St. Charles Parish – Last night, shortly after 11:00 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash on LA 626 at mile post 1. The crash claimed the life of the front seat passenger, Charles Green Jr. (age 20) of St. Rose, LA. Preliminary investigation revealed that 19 year old Christopher Lymous of St. Rose, LA, was driving a 2009 Dodge Charger south on LA 626. For unknown reasons, the Dodge entered the northbound lane and while re-entering the southbound lane Lymous lost control of the vehicle. The Dodge then ran off the road, entered a ditch, and struck several trees. The vehicle began flipping and Green Jr. was ejected and pronounced dead on the scene. Lymous and a rear seat passenger, Justin Houston (age 18) of St. Rose, LA, both reported minor injuries. None of the occupants were restrained during the crash. Speed is considered a factor of the crash, however impairment is not. Troopers obtained a blood sample from Lymous and the toxicology test will be performed by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. The crash remains under investigation and criminal charges are pending. Wearing a seat belt properly is the single, most effective way of significantly decreasing the possibility of injury or death when involved in a motor vehicle crash. A seat belt prevents ejection from a vehicle and spreads crash forces over the strongest bones of a human body. It also slows the body down in a crash, therefore protecting internal organs, including the brain and spinal cord. Louisiana law requires that EVERYONE in a vehicle is properly buckled, including all rear seat passengers. Louisiana State Police want to reduce fatalities and injuries across our state, help us by ensuring that all occupants in your vehicle are properly buckled regardless of seating position! Buckle Up, Every Trip, Every Time!!
