TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE October 5, 2014 Pedestrian Killed in Crash on Airline Highway Laplace, LA – Last night, shortly before 9:00 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop B was notified of a fatal crash on US 61 north at Tiffany Drive. The crash claimed the life of a pedestrian, identified as 63 year-old David Curtis of Laplace, LA. Preliminary investigation revealed that Curtis was walking north on US 61 in the right lane of travel. Darrell Edwards (age 36) of Laplace, LA, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Impala in the right lane of US 61 north. The Impala struck Curtis in the right lane and he was pronounced dead on the scene. Impairment and speed are not considered factors of the crash, however Edwards submitted to a blood test and results are pending at this time. Toxicology results for Curtis are pending an autopsy. The crash remains under investigation. Troopers urge both motorists and pedestrians to remain vigilant while on area roadways and pay close attention to their surroundings. Louisiana State Law requires pedestrians to utilize sidewalks where accessible or walk along the left shoulder as far away from the roadway as possible. Pedestrians should walk against the flow of traffic, wear light colored clothing, and stay out of travel lanes at all times.
