41% of fatality crashes in 2013 involved alcohol. Motor vehicle crashes are preventable when good decisions are made behind the wheel. Driving impaired is not only illegal, but it causes deaths and injuries every day across our country. Louisiana State Police encourages motorists to have a plan as it relates to traveling safely. Alcohol and drugs affect judgment and they impair your ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and by having a plan in place ensures that you get home safely and other motorists on the road are safer. Troopers consistently investigate crashes involving impairment and lack of seat belt use. Every person in the vehicle is required by Louisiana law to be properly restrained regardless of seating position. Please use good judgment when behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, always driver sober and ensure that all passengers are buckled up.

If you witness a hazardous situation or observe a possibly impaired driver, please notify Louisiana State Police by calling *LSP (*577) from your cell phone and report the dangerous activity.
