TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE April 28, 2014 Unrestrained Passenger Killed and One Seriously Injured in St. John Parish Crash Garyville, LA- Shortly before 8 PM yesterday evening, a 21 year old Reserve man was killed and a another was seriously injured when the vehicle traveled off the road and struck a tree in St. John Parish. The investigation revealed that a 2004 Chrysler Sebring was traveling east on LA 44 approaching a left hand curve, in Garyville, LA. The Sebring was being driven by Torian Williams, (age 22) of Reserve, LA. The Sebring failed to negotiate the curve and traveled off the right side of the road. Williams overcorrected back to the left, causing the Sebring to cross LA 44 and travel off the left side where it struck a tree. The Sebring began to roll over after striking the tree, ejecting both Williams and his passenger Leroy Noble, (age 21) of Reserve, LA. Williams, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital with serious injuries. Noble, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to St. James Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Speed is a factor in the crash, and alcohol results are pending for Williams at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. | |||
