TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE April 23, 2014 Pedestrian Killed on I-10 in Metairie, LA Jefferson Parish – This morning, shortly before 9:00 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop B was notified of a fatal crash on I-10 west at Veterans Memorial Boulevard. The crash claimed the life of 34 year old Harry Daigle III of Metairie, LA. Preliminary investigation revealed that Kanequa Blackmon (age 21) of Kenner, LA, was driving a 1998 Saturn SL in the right lane of I-10 west at Veterans Blvd. Daigle was a pedestrian and was crossing the right lane of I-10 west and was struck by the Saturn. Daigle was pronounced dead on the scene. Impairment and speed are not considered factors of the crash and Blackmon was properly seat belted. Blackmon submitted to a breath test and no detectable alcohol was found in her system. She also submitted to a blood test and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab will conduct the analysis. Toxicology results on Daigle are pending an autopsy. Troopers urge both motorists and pedestrians to remain vigilant while on area roadways and pay close attention to their surroundings. Louisiana State Law prohibits pedestrians in interstate lanes and on interstate shoulders and requires the use of sidewalks where accessible. Crashes can occur in fractions of a second and motorists are reminded to avoid all distractions while behind the wheel of a motor vehicle and remain focused on the road.
