| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE August 10, 2016 Unrestrained White Castle Man Dies in Iberville Parish Crash Iberville Parish – Shortly after 6:00 pm on August 9, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on LA 69 west of LA 1 in Iberville Parish. The crash took the life of 79 year old Sterling Cedotal of White Castle, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Cedotal was traveling westbound on LA 69 in a 1992 Chevrolet pickup. For unknown reasons, Cedotal’s vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a dirt mound. The impact caused Cedotal’s vehicle to become airborne and it came to rest after landing upright in a field. Cedotal was unrestrained at the time of the crash and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from Cedotal for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
