TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE January 31, 2017 Marrero Man Killed in Crash in Jefferson Parish Jefferson Parish – This afternoon, shortly before 12:00 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash on LA 45 at Promenade Drive. The crash involved a motorcycle and claimed the life of 28 year old Brent Badeaux of Marrero, LA. Preliminary investigation revealed that Badeaux was driving a 2010 Honda motorcycle north on LA 45 in the left lane approaching Promenade Drive. A 2003 Infiniti FX45, driven by 28 year old Jessica Martin of Marrero, LA, was turning left from the median of LA 45 at the intersection with Promenade Drive. For reasons still under investigation, Martin failed to observe the Honda motorcycle and proceeded across the left lane of LA 45 north. The Honda struck the passenger side of the Infiniti and Badeaux was ejected. Badeaux was pronounced dead on the scene. Driver distraction on the part of Martin is suspected to be a factor of the crash. Speed and impairment are not suspected as factors. A toxicology test is pending an autopsy for Badeaux. Martin submitted to a breath test and no detectable alcohol was found in her system. The crash remains under investigation. Martin was arrested and booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center for Negligent Homicide, Failure to Yield and No License Plate. Troopers urge motorists to avoid all distractions while driving. Distractions, such as cell phones, passengers, radios, etc., take a driver’s focus away from the road. When focus is taken away from the road, the serious injury and fatality crash rate rises.
