TROOP B NEWS RELEASE March 11, 2018 Impairment and Lack of Seat Belt are Factors in St. Bernard Fatal Crash St. Bernard Parish – This morning, at approximately 8:30 am, Louisiana State Police Troop B was notified of a fatal crash on LA 39 east at Torres Drive. The crash claimed the life of 32 year old Daniel Scott of Chalmette, LA. Troopers’ initial investigation indicates that Scott was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado east on LA 39. For reasons still under investigation, the Silverado left the roadway to the right and entered a canal. The Silverado became submerged upside down. Scott was pronounced dead on the scene. Scott was not wearing a seat belt and impairment is suspected. Toxicology tests are pending an autopsy. The crash remains under investigation. Whether impaired through alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two, the consequences of driving while impaired remain the same. The task of stopping impaired drivers is a joint effort of law enforcement agencies and the public. By never allowing an impaired driver to get behind the wheel and reporting dangerous drivers to law enforcement, the public can play an important role in the reduction of crashes caused by impaired drivers. Making poor decisions in a vehicle such as driving impaired, driving while distracted, or not wearing a seat belt leads to serious injuries and deaths every day across the state. Making the responsible decision can mean the difference between life and death. Contact Information: S/T Melissa Matey | |||
