TROOP B NEWS RELEASE January 16, 2018 Passenger Succumbs to Injuries from Crash on I-310 St. Charles Parish – On Sunday, January 14, 2018, at approximately 10:30 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a serious injury crash involving three vehicles on I-310 north at the Hale Boggs Memorial Bridge. A passenger in one of the vehicles, 21 year old Ni-Kadek Ayu-Ratih Sinta of Gonzales, LA, was transported to University Medical Center with critical injuries. Sinta succumbed to her injuries on Monday, January 15, 2018. The initial crash investigation indicated that a 2008 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 23 year old Bria Mason of Boutte, LA, was traveling on I-310 north in the right lane at mile post 7.3. For reasons still under investigation, the Impala veered to the left and struck the left rear of a 2012 Nissan Altima that was traveling the right lane ahead of the Impala. The Altima was driven by 25 year old Eryawan Bagus of Hammond, LA and Sinta was a passenger in the Altima. After the Altima was struck, it rotated counter clockwise and came to rest across the right lane of I-310 with its passenger side facing on-coming traffic. The Altima was then struck on the passenger side by a 2015 Ford Focus, driven by 22 year old Allison Benoit of Houma, LA. Mason, Bagus and Benoit were transported to local area hospitals with minor to moderate injuries. Mason provided a blood sample which will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for toxicological analysis. Impairment is not suspected at this time. It is unknown if speed was a factor or if seat belts were worn. Although the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, Troopers urge motorists to avoid all distractions while driving. Distractions, such as cell phones, passengers, radios, etc., take a driver’s focus away from the road. When focus is taken away from the road, the serious injury and fatality crash rate rises. To learn more about the dangers of distracted driving please visit the government’s official distracted driving website, www.distraction.gov. Troopers remind motorists to make good decisions behind the wheel; buckle up each and every ride, drive sober, and place your full attention on the road and other motorists.
