TROOP B NEWS RELEASE December 2, 2017 Troopers Arrest Reserve Man for Fatal Hit and Run that occurred November 25, 2017 Update: Last night, Louisiana State Police Troop B Troopers arrested 34 year old Javon Gomez of Reserve, LA for the fatal hit and run crash in St. John the Baptist Parish that killed Eugene Webber III. The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office received information from a citizen regarding the whereabouts of the suspect vehicle. Troopers and Deputies found the vehicle and the driver at his residence in Reserve. Gomez was arrested and booked into the St. John the Baptist Parish jail for Felony Hit and Run, Displaying a Switched License Plate, No Insurance, Expired Driver’s License and Fraudulent Motor Vehicle Inspection Sticker. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to thank the community for their support and vigilance in this case. December 1, 2017 Update: Louisiana State Police Troop B continues to ask for the community’s assistance in identifying the driver of a fatal hit and run on November 25, 2017 in St. John the Baptist Parish. The investigation is on-going and Troopers located additional photos of the suspect vehicle. The vehicle has a Louisiana license plate X444666. This license plate is not registered to the suspect vehicle. It is possible that a different license plate may be attached to the vehicle at this time. The pick-up truck is unique and has a different color tailgate and there is a significant difference in paint colors on the sides of the vehicle. Anyone with information about the vehicle’s whereabouts or the driver of this vehicle, please contact Louisiana State Police Troop B at 504.471.2775. November 28, 2017 UPDATE: Troopers are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the suspect vehicle that killed Eugene Webber III on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at approximately 6:00 pm. The hit and run vehicle is described as a 1988-2000 model year GMC/Chevrolet pick-up truck. The truck could be a Sierra, Cheyenne, Silverado, C2500 or Scottsdale model. The truck is a light color, possibly silver or gray. There will be damage on the vehicle, specifically on the driver’s side headlight and amber signal light. The suspect vehicle also has a tool box mounted across the bed of the truck. Anyone with information is asked to call Louisiana State Police Troop B at 504.471.2775. November 26. 2017 - St. John the Baptist Parish – Yesterday evening, at approximately 6:00 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop B was notified of a hit and run fatal crash involving a pedestrian on US 61 at Jaubert Lane. The pedestrian was identified as 32 year old Eugene Webber III of LaPlace, LA. Preliminary investigation revealed that Webber was walking across the left lane US 61 north when he was struck by an unknown vehicle that was traveling in the northbound left lane. Webber died on the scene. At this time, it is unknown if impairment and/or speed were factors and the investigation is on-going. Troopers are in the process of interviewing witnesses and attempting to identify the vehicle involved.
