TROOP B NEWS RELEASE October 19, 2017 Westwego Man Killed in Motor Vehicle Crash on US 90 St. Charles Parish – Yesterday evening, shortly after 9:00 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on US 90 west at Myrtle St. in Boutte, LA. The crash claimed the life of 39 year old Christopher Bergeron of Westwego, LA. Investigating Troopers were advised by St. Charles Sheriff’s Office that they were responding to a possible intoxicated pedestrian in the roadway at the crash location. Upon their arrival, Deputies discovered Bergeron had been struck by a motor vehicle in the westbound lanes of US 90 and notified LSP Troop B. Troopers found that Bergeron was struck by a 2012 Lincoln Navigator, driven by 57 year old Barbara Jenkins of Brandon, MS. Bergeron was pronounced dead on the scene. Impairment is not suspected for Jenkins, who voluntarily submitted a blood sample on which a toxicological analysis will be performed by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Toxicology analysis on Bergeron is pending an autopsy. The crash remains under investigation. Troopers would like to remind citizens that crashes involving pedestrians can often be avoided by following some basic safety guidelines. Pedestrians should wear light-colored or reflective clothing, walk in the opposite direction of traffic and always avoid walking on the roadway in dark areas. Pedestrians must also assume that approaching motorists cannot see them, especially at night. Crossing roadways only in well-lit, designated areas and always walking facing traffic will enhance the safety for pedestrians. Contact Information: S/T Melissa Matey | |||
