Single Vehicle Crash Claims Life of Hahnville Man

St. Charles Parish – This morning, shortly before 7:00 am, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on LA 18 at LA 3160. The crash claimed the life of 47 year old Chaquen Johnson of Hahnville, LA.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Johnson was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala north on LA 3160, approaching LA 18. For unknown reasons, the Chevrolet traveled across LA 18 at a high rate of speed. It then traveled over the levee, into a ditch and became airborne. The Chevrolet flipped several times, partially ejecting Johnson. Johnson was pronounced dead on the scene.

Johnson was not wearing a seat belt and speed is suspected to be a factor. Impairment is not suspected, however a toxicology test will be performed during an autopsy. The crash remains under investigation.

The majority of motorists who die in crashes are not wearing a seat belt. Despite this fact, some people still choose not to take the 3 seconds needed to buckle a seat belt. Louisiana law requires motorists to wear a seat belt in every seating position, front seat and back seat, day and night. Wearing a seat belt is the single most effective thing vehicle occupants can do to minimize the risk of injury in the event of a crash. Motorists are encouraged to make the smart choice and to always Buckle Up!
