TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE February 6, 2016 Pedestrian Killed in Crash on Clearview Parkway Jefferson Parish – This morning, at approximately 5:30 am, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on Clearview Parkway near the south I-10 Service Road. Preliminary investigation revealed that a pedestrian walked into the right lane of S. Clearview Parkway northbound and was struck by a 1995 Chevrolet pick-up, driven by 75 year-old Paul McCord of River Ridge, LA. The pedestrian was transported to University Medical Center and later died. It is unknown why the pedestrian walked into the lane of traffic and the identity is being withheld pending notification to the family. McCord was not injured and voluntarily submitted to a breath test. No detectable alcohol was found in his system. Toxicology tests are pending an autopsy on the pedestrian. Walking upon the travel lanes of a highway, especially at night is dangerous and should be avoided. A majority of pedestrian fatalities, nearly 70 percent, occur at night. Pedestrians are encouraged to wear light colored clothing, reflective materials, and to carry a flashlight at night.
