TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE June 4, 2016 UPDATE Louisiana State Police Seeks Public’s Assistance in Hit and Run Fatality UPDATE: The bicyclist has been identified as 58 year old Otis A. Harris of New Orleans, LA. Through investigation, Troopers have determined that the initial vehicle that struck Harris on the bicycle is a 1998 or 1999 Toyota Avalon. The Toyota will have front end damage. Troopers are continuing their investigation. If you have information pertaining to a vehicle matching this description, please contact Louisiana State Police Troop B at 504.471.2775. Also, Crimestoppers is offering up to $2500 for information which leads to the arrest and indictment of the suspect(s) responsible for this crime. Jefferson Parish – (June 1, 2016) Early this morning, shortly before 2:00 am, Louisiana State Police was notified of a body in the roadway on LA 3139 south (Earhart Expressway), near the Orleans Parish line. Preliminary investigation revealed that an unidentified male subject was riding a bicycle south on LA 3139 near the shoulder of the road and was struck from the rear by an unidentified vehicle. Troopers believe that the subject was struck a second time by another unidentified vehicle. Evidence collected from the scene indicated that one of the suspect vehicles is a Toyota. The suspect vehicles possibly have front end damage. An autopsy will be conducted in order to identify the male subject. The investigation is on-going. State Police is asking anyone with information related to either vehicle to please come forward. You can call Louisiana State Police at (504) 471-2775.
